It is our determination here at the Transylvania Travel Company to provide all of the advantages of guided travel (such as local expertise and worry-free transport) without the inflexibility, impersonality and frequent banality of the "group tour" experience. With this goal in mind, our tours are customized to YOUR preferences, including the type of itinerary, length of the trip, and the pace of travel. We can accomodate groups from one to six persons.

We leave YOU, the traveler, in control. We simply offer our expertise to you as guides, while also providing the comfortable, reliable and flexible transportation to make your dream trip a reality.

Tours are likely to begin either in Bucharest--Romania's capital--or in Timişoara--a beautiful and historic city in the Transylvanian Banat--each with its own international airport. Of course, tours may also start from other cities in and around Transylvania (or even neighboring Hungary or Serbia)--it's all up to you.

All tours are 130 EURO per day for a maximum of 6 persons. Please note that this price is for the entire group, NOT per person.

The tour price includes:

1) All transportation in our new, air-conditioned VW van to travel wherever your heart desires, from the quaint back-road villages of the Maramures to the heart of government and culture in Bucharest. This extended-wheelbase van has room for six adults and plenty of luggage.

2) The full-time assistance and services of a driver/guide and translator. These services begin long before your travel does, for we are here to help you plan your explorations in Transylvania, secure the accommodation you want in the price range you can afford, and provide you with all the preliminary information you need before you even leave home.

The price does NOT include the cost of hotels or meals. Why? Two reasons:

1) Letting you pay the current rate for your hotel room saves you money. Unlike the big tour operators, the Transylvania Travel Company only offers customized tours for small groups and families. We therefore do not receive special room discounts. Hence, any profit we would make by including accomodation in the cost of our tours would come straight out of your pocket--and that's just not right. By hiring our services, you place your trust in us. It then becomes our task to help you plan the perfect travel holiday for the LEAST amount of money possible. We will suggest hotels in various price categories and--once you have decided--call to secure your reservations.

2) Letting you choose your hotel--with our assistance--keeps control of your travel where it belongs: with you. The primary purpose of the Transylvania Travel Company--besides providing transportation--is providing information. With adequate information, you can best choose what you want to see, when you want to see it (and for how long), and where you want to stay. All this information is included in the cost of the tour; final decisions rest with you.

The same principle applies to restaurant meals: we respect the desire of travelers to choose the type, amount, and cost of the food they wish to eat.  Time is allotted for lunch and dinner daily, and recommendations will be offered.  Romania is not an expensive country, and food costs for Western travelers are quite modest, in the range of $3 to $8 for a full meal, including beverage. Why should we make you pay more? We shouldn't.

Except in those cases when guided tours are required, travelers will be allowed to explore the cities and sites on their own and at their own pace—the only stipulation being that they return to the vehicle by a designated hour.  Historical background will be given before arriving at each location.  The tour guides will often offer a walking tour of each place in English, which the travelers are free to accept—or not.
